Hey guys!

Just wanted to let all my fellow Aussie pals know that I will be at Supanova in Sydney this coming weekend (22 and 23 June 2013). Looks like its gonna be a good show! If you are in the area, stop by and say hello and come and check out the latest art in my stash! Always great meeting new peeps from the DA, as well as catching up with some old faces.

My good old friend Mark Brooks is coming all the way from the states, so it will be great to catch up. He's got a lot of skill, and I believe he will be bringing the swag!

 :icondiablo2003:

And speaking of skills, another great friend, Mr. David Yardin will also be there as well as a whole heap of other guys.

:icondavidyardin:

I will be sketching and selling prints and even taking pre-orders for the latest Ozmoss Chills sketch book which will be a collected remixed and remastered version of OC1 and OC2 + around 20 new bonus pages.

Hope to see you there!

500,000 pageviews!

Do people even care about this sort of thing anymore? I dunno...back in the day if you caught a screen grab of a significant number something cool was bound to happen. Usually an art request. I kind of miss those days a little sometimes...its all been work and no fun for years! So, I might do something for the 555,555... perhaps a chibi request or something like that. I guess that might come around sometime in 2015 maybe?! haha. we'll see!

Hey guys!

Just letting you all know about this awesome convetion that is coming up this weekend in Melbourne, Australia!

Melbourne Exhibition Centre 30th June & 1st July 2012

If you havn't heard of Oz Comic Con yet, I don't know where you have been... The con has a massive and very impressive line-up of local and international artists. Not only that, but there will also be a real editor from Dark Horse comics there to review portfolios! If that wasn't enough, you also get STAN LEE! This is a once in a life time opportunity to see a true living comics legend in Australia. Plus, Patrick Stewart (Prof. X!) will also be there. And this is just the tip of the ice-berg. Like I said, the line-up for this con is awesome if you are into your art and comics, as well as pop-culture stuff. I am very excited to be a part of this show.

Check out the details here: www.ozcomiccon.com/guests.aspx…

If you are going to the con, I would love to meet you all. As always, there is a soft spot in my heart for fellow deviant art peeps! Please drop by my table and say hello! I will be located with all the other comic guests. I will have plenty of swag for you to grab there, including a preview copy of my art book Ozmosis Chills 3!

Original Art Collectors: I am going to be very open to some haggling and bargains on my original art this year, so don't be shy! I am wanting to empty out my folders. I heard you guys love original art in Melbourne? Let's make some deals! Also, let me know what characters you love, as I will be warming up this week, and your favourite character could make an appearance! :D

See you in Melbourne very soon!

Hello!
I have been designing some of the actual pages that will appear in my new art book. I thought you guys might like a sneak peek. I can't wait to have the finished product in my hands!

OCIIIpreview

My Indiegogo campaign (here: www.indiegogo.com/OzmosisChill… ) has been going very well. I have to say a big HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported my campaign so far. If you have been enjoying the regular updates for the past couple of weeks, you can thank those people who have helped me do what I love. This is a labour of love, and without your support it just wouldn't happen. So, sincerely thank YOU! With just under a week to go on the campaign, I have almost raised $5000! So close! Just a couple more book sales and I will have reached that goal.

A lot of stuff has sold out, but, there are also a couple of commission spots left, as well as the $80 head sketch deal (shipping included!), which is probably the best for all my friends who do not live in Australia (and if you would like some original art). I have really been enjoying drawing all these commissions, and I look forward to revealing the final cover soon.

I gotta tell you, this crowd-funding business is a lot of work, but it is also fun. The best part is knowing how many books I should print, which is always handy!

Thanks for reading, and once again, thanks for the support of my book, and a BIG thank you to everyone who has been telling their friends about the book also. You guys rock! If you feel like sharing the link to my campaign around, I would really appreciate that! It all helps, and I am aready looking in to using the extra funding to make the book better and add some more pages of art for you guys. So, wins all around! :D

Talk soon, and with more art!

Hey guys! Time for a BIG update. Ozmosis Chills III is finally here for pre-order!

In case you don't know, Ozmosis Chills III is my new art/sketch book. It is 84 pages full of my art and ideas! A must-have for anyone who loves stopping by my gallery or who has been following my work over the years. All the details are here on this link:

igg.me/p/109510?a=623807

I have just launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise enough cash so that I can print a really nice quality book of my art. (It's basically identical to Kickstarter). A lot of you guys here on Deviant art own copies of my first 2 books; Ozmosis Chills and Ozmosis Chills II. Well, this 3rd book is going to be an even bigger and better product than those two. There is a bunch of new art in this book which I have kept stashed away so that this book would feel very fresh the first time you go through it.

There are many "perks" involved when you put an order in for the book. To all you guys who want some original art from me, this is where to go to get it and secure a spot on my commission list. Most of the sketch and commission slots are limited, so it will be first in, first served.

One thing I thought you guys might love here on DA is the chance to get your very own Chibi's drawn by me. I love drawing them, and now is your chance to tell me who you want me to draw and colour for you. I'm even happy to draw your own original characters if that is what you want. CHIBI EXAMPLES:
OC2 sketch 08 :: lil Deadpool by Red-J OC2 sketch 06 :: Lil Gemini by Red-J Baby Wolvie by Red-J Little Spidey in colour by Red-J Little Darkstalker :: Felicia by Red-J Little Leo :: Ninja Turtle by Red-J

So, to pre-order your copy of Ozmosis Chills III click on this link, and you should find all the info you need there! Hope to draw something for you soon! Please do help me spread the word about the book. I hope to send many copies to you guys all around the world, and every little bit of getting the word out there will help me a tonne... for which I will be eternally grateful!

igg.me/p/109510?a=623807

Thanks for reading,

Jon.

Hello guys!

I know it has been a while in between journal entries. I'm getting back into the swing of things here on Deviant art, so I thought I would update with a few things that are happening. Hope you don't mind the journal dump!

Before we proceed any further I would just like to say a big huge THANKYOU to the anonymous donater of my latest DA premium membership. You are a very kind soul!

ART and COMICS update!

top secret comic book: I have been busy in the lab... I have been drawing non-stop comic pages for the past few months. Yep... I am working on a new comic book series. I don't know who the publisher will be yet, but it is a very exciting property. Issue 1 is done and issue 2 is almost finished. It is a 3 issue mini-series, with the 3rd issue being a double sized finale. I can't say much about it yet, but I will be pimping this thing once it is done and ready to go.

GEMINI

GEMINI: Remember this poor guy? Well, here is the update on issue 5... The issue is fully pencilied and about half way inked. As soon as top secret is done, I will be back on to finish Gemini once and for all. This comic will get done one way or another!

Ozmosis Chills 3 :: RED J ARTBOOK:
OCIII
I'm working on my third art book. I did a small print run of this one for NYCC in 2011, but they SOLD OUT. I am re-designing a lot of the book and including some new stuff in there for the new version. Keep an eye out for a journal entry on how to get a copy of this book soon. For those wondering, it will be 84 pages, Full Colour, featuring thumbnails, sketches, finished pencils and full coloured pieces. It's a chunky book! The size is 10 x 8.5, so it's bigger than the last 2 Ozmosis books. I'm going to set something up so you can preorder the book with extra sketches and stuff. Let me know if you are interested.

JCM

So I wanted to put my thoughts down on John Carter. You know I love talking about movies in my journal from time to time, so please bare with me as I ramble on as if I am someone who knows what they are talking about. This is a movie that needs to be discussed.

I wanted to love this film. I really did. I went in to John Carter (of Mars) with very high expectations and with the idea of walking out of the cinema ready to tell the world how much I loved it and how they needed to go and check this thing out right away. I was ready to give this thing my full support. Sadly, that wasn't the case. I mean, there were parts that I did really enjoy, such as the design work (Tharks were particularly awesome), the voice acting and animation were great, and I'm all for this type of story, but there was something missing. I think it may have been the flow of the story (it does jump around a little) or perhaps my lack of care for the characters themselves. Some of the names also felt VERY dated (helium?) but I get that you can't really update those for authenticities sake.

I really can't say exactly what it was, but I did end up getting quite bored whenever there were scenes of humans having long conversations. The dialogue just didnt have that intrigue that keeps you on the edge of your seat for those chats to be so long. Not like Tarrantino did at the start of Inglorious Basterds, for example. When the dialogue is that good, you can sit and listen for half an hour before you even know the time has passed.

I know there is a great film in John Carter, somewhere. I'm sure if this came out maybe 20 years ago, the world would be gushing all over it today, but that is not the case. (Is it gross to say that the world would be "gushing"?... it IS a saying, right?)

In the end I do recognise that my reaction to the film was probably my own fault for going in with such high expectations... but can you blame me? I mean, this is Andrew Stanton we are talking about here, director of Finding Nemo and Wall.E, and I have loved every little thing Pixar has ever done. I even thought Cars 2 was OK, and I have never been dissapointed by a Pixar film which I have watched with the highest of most high expectations in the past, only to be fully satisfied!

I have since heard from many friends who have gone to see John Carter after all the bad press it got, and all of them except maybe one or two have said that they absolutely loved it! So, I really want to go see it again... Now that I am calm and relaxed about it. Now that I can go in expecting to hate it, and see where it lands for me. I did enjoy the last Indiana Jones on my second visit after being very bored the first time.

I think if you havn't seen it, you really should. If you have read any of this, then obviously you are a fan of this type of movie like me, and so I do recommend it. Go in with low expectations and you might like it. I don't know. I do however think it is important to support this type of movie. I would like to see more get made. I would prefer to see a movie like this get made and sort of fail than to see another formulaic, predictable blockbuster guaranteed to make money and not really offer anything new *cough* transformers *cough* pirates *cough*. Sorry about that... I seem to have a mild cough at the moment.

So what did you guys think? Did you love it or hate it? If you did hate it, would you want to give it a second chance? I think that's what I'm gonna do. I also have a small hope that we might see the rest of this trilogy made, but sadly I dont think it will be the case.
_________________________________________________________________________
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whew! Did anyone have a spare 20 minutes to actually read all of that... I realy need to update more regularly so that I don't end up writing so much... That would be the smart thing to do.

Well, thanks for reading and I'll talk more with you guys soon!

Hello!

Just wanted to say a big fat HUGE THANK YOU to all you guys that have been in touch with me and for showing me your work. I've had a look at over 70 portfolios of colour samples over the past few days, so I'm sorry that I can't get back to everyone individually, but I have definately looked at each and every link you guys have put up for me to see.

I have contacted all those who I thought would fit the job description, and I am very excited to see what these guys come up with. Very talented people who I'm looking forward to working with.

Please feel free to keep posting your galleries for me to see. I always like to see what you guys are up to especially in the world of colour. We should definately do more colour jams around here as well, if only there was time. i would love to be able to do a colour jam and then be able to give you guys who are up and coming some tips on your work (if you wanted them). So, a jam with a critique so we can all learn a thing or two about colouring! Is that something you guys would be interested in?

Aside form that, I'll let you guys know all about this new book as soon as it is announced. This comic will be a lot of fun.

Also, Will I see any of you guys in NEW YORK for comicon??

cheers!

Red J.

Hi guys!

I'm looking for a colourist to join our team and work on some comic books! I have a number of paid gigs coming up, so I am looking for someone who wants to collaborate over a long term period of time.

The first job will be colouring my pages for Gemini issue 5. Your work will be printed and published by Image comics. I also have my next gig lined up for which you will also be colouring.

You can see the sort of colours I like to go for in my gallery here on deviantart. Here are a couple of examples of the colour style I like:

Sequential pages in your folio are a big plus, but not essential. I mostly want to see people with a good knowledge of lighting as well as an understanding of forms and colour theory. You must love comics and good art! I will also be teaching you everything I know about colour (if needed) to get the right look. It will be a lot of fun!!

Hope to find a good partner in crime here!

Let's see what you've got! Good luck!

Hey guys!

Nothing too crazy to report, but I needed to update my journal, so here's a couple of bits n pieces.

Firstly, I just wanted to let everyone know that the second volume of my artbook "Ozmosis Chills" is now completely sold out. I wanted to say a BIG thank you to all you guys who bought a copy, and also for all the great sketch requests I got from it.

I will be doing an Ozmosis Chills III in the near future. Hopefully in time for New York comicon which I am also planning on attending. I have an artist alley table, so hopefully I will ge the chance to meet many of you lovely people from the other side of the world!

There's been a few good films out this year. Probably my favourists so far have been Source Code, Thor, Xmen FC and Kung-Fu Panda 2.

I'm most looking forward to BRAVE. Check out the trailer here:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYg0Vg…

I havn't seen Cars 2 or Green Lantern yet. I was really looking forward to both of them, but it sounds like they are quite dissapointing. Still, I will go see them for myself.

Gonna go see Transformers 3 tomorrow. Hope it is more like 1 and much less like 2.

Captain America looks AWESOME!

So what are you guys excited about? Put up some links to good trailers if you have seen any worth checking out.

Jon.
