Hey guys!
I am surprised to see very little discussion about this movie, so I thought I would post up my thoughts, and hopefully hear what you guys think.
I went and saw Avatar the other night. I actually chose to see it in 2D because I am wanting to avoid this whole 3D 'gimmick' which is happening at the moment. I have also heard that when you watch a film in 3D it looses some of the brightnes and colour. More on that later.
I was blown away guys! I REALLY LOVED this movie. I fell in love with the world, and with it's inhabitants. Some critics (like Roger Ebert) are comparing this movie to starwars when it first came out in 1977, and it was one of the first things I said to my girlfriend as I walked out of the cinema.
This is a big call really, and only time will tell, but the way I see it all the right ingredients are in place.
I read somewhere that the actors are signed up for a trilogy, so that is really exciting. It means that we may get to explore more of Pandora, and who knows...perhaps see more alien races from other planets??
The design work is just gorgeous to look at, from the environments to the creatures to the cold inorganic military vehicles. There is something about the quality here which makes me feel like paintings and artwork have really come to life.
The story was a little predictable in parts, but I think to some extent this was the best and smartest way to introduce audiences to this world. It really worked for me in any case.
One of the other things that really stands out as you watch this flick is the depth of what you are seeing on screen. The environments are HUGE and everything just feels so sparce. As I was sitting there, I was realising how much the 3D would enhance this effect, and so I am going to go see it again this week with the 3D glasses to get that experience.
Love to hear what you guys thought of this movie! Am I the only one who thought it was amazing?!
J.
